How is Colposcopy Performed?
The colposcopy procedure is performed in gynecological examination position:
1. Speculum is inserted 2. Cervix is stained with 3-5% acetic acid (vinegar) 3. Cervix is magnified and examined with colposcope 4. Abnormal areas (acetowhite areas, mosaic, punctation, etc.) are evaluated 5. Biopsy is taken from suspicious areas 6. Endocervical curettage is performed if necessary
The procedure takes 10-15 minutes and is generally painless. A mild pinching sensation may occur during biopsy.
