HPV Vaccination

The HPV vaccine is the most effective protection method for preventing cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases. Most HPV infections can be prevented with vaccination.

HPV Vaccine and Its Importance

The HPV vaccine is a prophylactic vaccine that provides protection against specific types of the Human Papillomavirus. Available vaccines:

- Gardasil 9 (9-valent): Protection against HPV types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, 58

  • Gardasil 4 (4-valent): Protection against HPV types 6, 11, 16, 18

  • Cervarix (2-valent): Protection against HPV types 16, 18

The vaccine can prevent more than 90% of cervical cancers and more than 90% of genital warts.

  • Who Should Be Vaccinated and How?

    HPV vaccination guidelines:

    - Ages 9-14: 2 doses (at 0 and 6-12 months)

  • Ages 15-26: 3 doses (at 0, 2, and 6 months)

  • Ages 27-45: Can be administered with physician evaluation

The vaccine is most effective when given before sexual activity begins. However, it also benefits sexually active individuals because they may not have been exposed to all HPV types simultaneously.

The HPV vaccine is safe and more than 300 million doses have been administered worldwide.
