CIN Classification

CIN is a classification system for precancerous cell changes in the cervix.

What is CIN?

CIN (Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia) is a classification system describing precancerous cell changes in the cervix.

CIN grades:

  • CIN 1 (Low-grade): Mild dysplasia, usually resolves on its own

  • CIN 2 (Moderate-grade): Moderate dysplasia, may require treatment

  • CIN 3 (High-grade): Severe dysplasia or carcinoma in situ, requires treatment

CIN is not cancer but can progress to cancer over years if left untreated.

  • Treatment Approach

    - CIN 1: Follow-up (most regress on their own)

  • CIN 2-3: LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure), conization, or cryotherapy

  • Regular follow-up: Post-treatment monitoring with smear and HPV tests

  • Frequently Asked Questions

    Does CIN 1 require treatment?+
Generally, follow-up is sufficient because 60-70% of cases regress on their own within 1-2 years. However, regular check-ups are essential.
