Laser Treatment for CIN

Laser ablation in CIN treatment is the method of destroying precancerous lesions on the cervix by vaporizing them with CO2 laser.

Laser Ablation in CIN Treatment

Laser ablation is the vaporization of CIN (Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia) lesions on the cervix using CO2 laser. In this method, abnormal tissue is destroyed by laser energy, and the formation of healthy new tissue is promoted.

Laser ablation may be preferred especially for CIN 1 and selected CIN 2 cases. The procedure is performed under colposcopy guidance and the entire abnormal area is treated.

Advantages and Limitations of Laser Treatment

Advantages:

  • Painless or minimally painful procedure

  • Preserves cervical tissue

  • Fast healing

  • Does not adversely affect fertility

  • Can be performed in outpatient setting

    Limitations:

  • Cannot obtain tissue sample (no pathological examination)

  • Not preferred for CIN 3 and suspected invasion

  • Not suitable for endocervical canal lesions

Therefore, LEEP or conization offers the tissue sampling advantage over laser ablation and is more commonly preferred.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get pregnant after CIN laser treatment?+
Yes, laser ablation is a cervical tissue-preserving method and does not adversely affect fertility. Pregnancy can be planned after healing.
Is laser treatment or LEEP better?+
LEEP is generally preferred because it allows tissue sampling. Laser ablation is a suitable alternative in selected cases. Your doctor will determine the most appropriate method.
