What is Uterine Sarcoma?

Uterine sarcoma is a rare malignant tumor originating from the muscle tissue (myometrium) or connective tissue of the uterus. It accounts for approximately 3-7% of all uterine cancers.

Types:

  • Leiomyosarcoma: The most common type, develops from uterine smooth muscle cells

  • Endometrial stromal sarcoma: Develops from the connective tissue of the inner uterine lining

  • Undifferentiated uterine sarcoma: Rare and aggressive type

  • Treatment Approach

    - Surgery: Total hysterectomy + bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy

  • Chemotherapy: In advanced or recurrent cases

  • Radiotherapy: In selected cases

  • Hormone therapy: In endometrial stromal sarcoma
